Week 4 notices and reminders!

Hello students and families!

Things to mention this week:

1)  Cantamath projects are due this Friday.  Students have had ample class time and have been encouraged to work on their TWO projects at home as well.  The expectation is that on Friday every child will hand in their A4 motif and one other project they have completed.  These will be checked off by home room teachers.

2)  ICAS maths is tomorrow (Tuesday the 15th of August).  If this involves you, you need to go to the library learning centre at 11.20am straight after tech.

3) On Tuesdays, technology day, all girls MUST have their hair tied back in a pony tail or bun please.  This reduces the risk of food contamination or injury with tools and machines in the Kirkwood classes.

4)  Winter sport once again this Friday.  This is our final winter sport afternoon for 2017.

5)  Going home today is a notice about our Cantamath visit to Horncastle Arena next week.  We are taking all of the Senior HQ students on Wednesday morning to view the collection of mathematical displays (like they are creating).   We will be travelling by bus and the cost of $4 per student will be added to the term fees.  All information is on the notice.

5)  Our school disco is this Friday night.  Student Council helpers need to be in the hall from 5.15pm.  Our senior disco is from 7-9pm.  The cost is $4 entry and there will be lollies, chips and drinks available for purchase like usual.  Student Council are expected to stay behind at 9pm to do the tidy up with Mrs G - please remind your families about this.  It is part of your role as a member of the council.

6)  A huge congratulations to our Rugby A, Netball A and Football A teams who have all qualified for the Canterbury Schools Winter Tournament event on Thursday the 24th of August at Hagley Park.  We are really proud of this achievement and wish all the competitors the very best of luck!

7) Finally we are having a tidy up of uniform across the senior students.  All students must be in proper Avonhead uniform at all times.  No other sweatshirts, beanies, coloured thermals etc.  Jackets are to be worn to and from school but not in the block.  A reminder that nail polish is not part of the school uniform either and should not be worn.

Thanks everyone.  Have a wonderful week!
Mrs Moore

Only a few things to note for next week:

2) Ski trip to Mt Hutt is on Thursday! More info on times will go out on Monday. Use this weekend to ensure you have all the proper gear you need.
3) Student conferences begin Monday. If you have not scheduled a time to meet with your teacher, make sure you go online and complete that as soon as possible.
Enjoy the weekend!

Mrs Moore's writing class

Check out the talented writing produced earlier this term by the writers in my writing class!  Our theme was ANZACs and the war and our focus was using impact vocabulary to create imagery for our audience.  You'll find all of the poems on the windows of the HQ in the quiet space - check them out next time you are visiting our block.  Enjoy the read...... Mrs Moore 😊

Can you believe there are only two week left until the end of the term?!

This week we began a Matariki art project in anticipation for Matariki on Monday. Here is the link that explains the importance of this holiday and what it represents. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgxifXxMHAw

On Tuesday, the lucky students who were the first 60 to hand in their notice will be attending Riccarton for their presentation of The Lion King.

Also on Tuesday, four of our clever chess masters will be competing at Halswell School for the competitive chess competition. Good luck!

On Wednesday afternoon, we have been given the opportunity to trial a new swim program at King's Swim School. Make sure to return your notices promptly in order to secure your spot. On the day, you will be required to come to school fully prepared for a nice walk and with everything you need to swim.

Final house meeting for the term will be held on Thursday.
Cantamaths prep will begin Friday. If any year 7's are interested in joining an after school Cantamaths practice club every Tuesday please let Miss Jakub know.

Also don't forget to hand in your ski notice to your homeroom teacher!

Have a good weekend everyone!
