Science Fair Task 1

This is the link to the first task for the Science Fair.  It has been discussed in detail at school and children have had some time to think about and brainstorm ideas for a question.  Questions are due this Wednesday 30 May

Science Fair Task 1 - come up with a question

Term 2, Week 5 2018

Wow, it's almost half way through the term already!  Winter sport has started - we are two weeks in and the students seem to be enjoying their chosen sport - pity about the weather on Friday - here's hoping there's not too many more Fridays like that!

Seussical Jr auditions are almost complete with our final call backs this week for the lead roles.  We are just so proud of all the students who have put themselves out there and auditioned.  We hope to have the key lead roles decided this week, and then minor lead roles next week.  We are aiming to put the musical on in the last week of Term 3 - confirmed dates will come soon.

We are having a major focus on Science this term.  Students have rotated round the four teachers and experienced a variety of experiments.  We have just launched the Science Fair which all students will complete - some of this at school and some at home.  I will endeavour to send through the information we give the students so you know what is going on.  At this stage students are just deciding on their question and hopefully have talked at home about what they could do.  Next week (week 6) we will be taking the students (in different groups) to the University of Canterbury where they will be introduced to working in a proper science lab.

This week is a Teacher Only Day on Friday and Monday is Queen's Birthday which is a public holiday.  School will not be open for the children on either of these days.

Seussical Jr auditions

Congratulations to everyone who has auditioned so far for our  musical to be held late in Term 3.

This week (week 3), we will audition Horton (Monday), Sour Kangaroo, including any Young Kangaroos (Tuesday), Mr & Mrs Mayor, The Grinch and Yertle (Thursday).  That leaves the Bird Girls and the Wickershams for the following week.

We will then have our call backs for all those who have made the short list.

Year 8 Day at Riccarton High School

Thanks to Riccarton High School, our Year 8s got to experience a day at Riccarton High to see what it is like to be a high school student, and to help ease the transition between primary and secondary school.  Thanks Riccarton High for having us, it was a great day!

Week 2 - Notices and Reminders

Wow.  Week 1 is done and dusted.  Here are the reminders for Week 2:

1)  Auditions were great last week and we were really proud of the quality of the singing and auditions we saw for the Cat in the Hat.  If you are auditioning this week, rehearse and practice and Mrs B will let you know which day on Monday.

2)  Mrs B and Mrs Moore welcome their student teachers who are with us for 7 weeks - Katrina Gilfoyle and Nora Niddery.

3)  Our Senior Cross Country event is Thursday afternoon kicking off at 1.30pm on our school grounds again like last year.  There will be two categories - 3000m for competitive runners (qualifies for zones if placed) and then 1700m for non-competitive.  Please come along and support the students if you are able to!

4)  Year 8 high school experience day is at Riccarton High School on Friday the 11th of May.  Students need to let Mr Rodger know (by returning the form by Wednesday), if they are planning on meeting Mr Rodger down at Riccarton at 8.50am OR if they are coming to school at 8.20am to walk down from here with Mrs B.  She will leave school by 8.30am to get to Riccarton on time.

5)  Science workshops continue to run in Week 2 with the home room teachers you haven't yet seen.  It was great seeing strong engagement and lots of experiments being investigated all afternoon in the HQ on Thursday.   Lots of fun!

Finally, a talented crew of students from Team 7/8 constructed the new Learners Quality presentation for assembly in Week 1.  Special thanks to Hamish Barclay for his talented script writing, Rahil Uddin for his video editing, members of the media team who helped with filming and all the students who did the acting for us.  It was AMAZING!  Check it out here:
