Times Tables website

For those of you who still have some of your tables to learn, here is a good website to help.  If you spend 5-10 minutes a day on here, practising those tables which are tricky for you, it will make all the difference to your maths :)  You will be able to spend time solving problems rather than thinking about what 7 x 5 is!!!

Week 9, Term 1 2018

Just a couple of reminders for this week...

We have three more days of swimming lessons at Kings.  Please remember your togs.  The weather is looking much brighter and warmer, thank goodness.

Easter begins at the end of this week.  There is no school on Friday 30 March and Monday 2 April as they are public holidays.  There is also no school on Tuesday 3 April. This is a 'schools only' holiday, rather than a public holiday.  I believe this is a 'left over' from when we used to only have three terms and Easter always fell in the first term (nowadays, it seems to mainly fall in the holidays, although not this year!!).  Anyway, enjoy your long weekend!!

Inquiry Task 1 (Character Web) and Task 2 (Events that will impact on my identity) will be due very soon.  Listen out for the due dates.  I have seen some amazing Character Webs being put together - ka pai!

House Korowai

Friday was an exciting day for our houses and our house captains.  In assembly the house captains presented the school with our completed korowai (cloaks) that were finished last week.  They look amazing!  In an earlier house meeting this term students helped by creating feathers in house colours with one another.  The house captains and some helpers then compiled the cloaks.  Finally the house names of rimu, rata, kowhai and kahikatea were added.  The end result is spectacular and by the end of this week they will be up in our school hall proud and prominent on display for all to see.  Together we are growing the culture of whanau and unity, mana and togetherness as houses and as a school.  Check out some assembly snaps:

Week 7, Term 1 2018

Hello everyone...week 7!!!

What's happening in Week 7?

  • Last week you received a notice from your child regarding Tuesday afternoon's PUM.  Students may go home at 12:30pm with permission from their parent/caregiver.  If we do not have this in writing, your child must stay at school.  There will be some teachers still at school who will be supervising these children.
  • Technology will continue on Tuesday - please be at school by 8:30am
  • Swimming lessons at Kings Swim School begin on Wednesday.  Togs, towel, goggles and cap must be brought on this day (and for the next two weeks).  A notice went home last week regarding swimming abilities.  Please return this if you haven't already.
  • ICAS and other international maths tests - entry forms came home last week - please return these this week.  You can email dbusfield@avonhead.school.nz for further information or another form if you need too.
Congratulations to our House Captains who were presented with their house colour hats in assembly on Friday...

And congratulations to our Student Council who were formally introduced to the school on Friday as well...

Swimming Lessons - Kings Swim School

Starting next week, Week 7, we are beginning our Year 7/8 swimming lessons down at Kings Swim School.  This is a compulsory part of our Health and PE curriculum.  We swim every day beginning on Thursday the 15th of March for two weeks.  We walk our students to and from Kings.  This year we will be walking down in ability groups rather than home rooms as the lessons will be held each session in levels rather than all levels in the water at once.  We are sending home today with your child an assessment notice that will help us group the students correctly.  Please spend time with your child to fill this out and return it THIS WEEK please.

Many thanks,
Karalee Moore and the Senior HQ Teachers
